PK 3050A Amphibious Float Certification

PK Floats Inc. is pleased to announce the certification of their new PK 3050A Amphibious Floats. STC # SA00213BO for Cessna 185 was received April 1, 2005.

This new float is the lightest in its class in the industry. Tipping the scales at 579 lbs installed on the Cessna 185.

The PK 3050A has a long list of new and innovative designs and materials. Some of the new features are all stainless steel hydraulic cylinders, stainless steel main landing gear swing arm and composite nose gear and water rudders.
Both Floats have standard storage compartments of 100 lbs each.

Installation time will be greatly reduced due to the power pack being located in the right hand float

The variable dead rise bottom design and the addition of a rear hydrobooster makes the float an outstanding performer.

We are currently working on obtaining certification of the PK 3050A on the Cessna 180, Cessna 182 and Maule. The install weight on the Cessna 182 will be 570 lbs and the Maule will weigh in at 568 lbs.

PK2250A Amphibious Float

P.K. Floats Inc. is pleased to announce the development of a new model float, the PK 2250A Amphibious model which is currently in the prototype stage. This new float will be the lightest in its class in the industry, weighing in at 380 lbs. This float will feature many of the new innovative designs and materials used on our latest model, recently certified, PK 3050A amphibious float.

The PK 2250A is based on the PK B2300 float that has been very successful and a great performer on all of the existing approved models of aircraft. The new PK 2250A will also feature the aft rear hydrobooster and a forward chine hydrobooster that is currently used on the PK 3050A. This float will also have the same type design main landing gear swing arm made of stainless steel. The nose gear will feature composite nose gear with a proven shimmy dampener system.

The hydraulic system will be installed in the right hand float compartment as in our larger model floats. This will reduce the installation time and the need for a lot of modification to the aircraft fuselage. Also, it will eliminate most of the hydraulic mess in the aircraft. The installation of the power pack in the float will also save a lot of additional plumbing and weight. The main landing gear cylinders are stainless steel as well as the nose gear cylinders.

The water rudders will be made of the same composite material as are the PK 3050A rudders. This reduces weight, eliminates corrosion and allows flexibility to the blades when beaching the aircraft.

The aft rear bottom will have a keel as well as being made from a single sheet of aluminum to increase the strength, therefore eliminating denting or compression of the aft rear bottom during beaching or while it is on a ramp.

The PK 2250A will also have 50 lb storage compartments in each float, identical to the B2300s. This will be standard on our new model. The new flush hatches also have a new design, neoprene gasket to eliminate leakage in the compartment.

The float will also have a newly designed lightweight double puck breaking system that will greatly improve stopping and breaking distance. We have also incorporated a grease purging system to allow grease to be pumped into the wheel without filling the entire cavity with grease. The main landing gear axle is stainless steel and does not require the use of a cotter pin. This same proven design is also used on our larger model PK 3050A float.

The PK2250A will also incorporate all stainless steel hardware and steering system, including water rudder springs that will eliminate rust and staining of the paint due to corrosion.

PK Floats Inc. intends to start flight testing sometime in May and certification is expected by mid-summer. The certification program will include, but not be limited to the following aircraft: all models of Aviat Husky, PA 18, TC 180 Top Cub, Bellanca Scout, Arctic Tern, PA 12, Cessna 172, Cessna 172 XP.
